CDPAP (Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program) is a program Medicaid which enables the people that have registered to manage their own health care independently. This program was developed so that those people who have chronic diseases or disable to get assistance to get the help from home care or the services of the nurses.
Any person that is receiving the services under CDPAP is known as a consumer rather than a client or a patient as it is used in hospitals and other health centers. A consumer is the one who will direct how care will be administered and the activities that the caregiver will do.
The consumer is the one that is responsible for everything that his or her care entails. The consumer is the one that is responsible for hiring the person that will be responsible for taking his or her care.
The consumer is the only one who has the mandate to fire the caregiver for any reason or any time that the consumer may feel like. The consumer is the one that is responsible for taking care of any emerging issues and dealing with any problem that may arise.
It is important to know that under the CDPAP the caregiver can be any person even if it is a relative provided the consumer has identified him or her due to trust. It is important to know that as a consumer you can hire anybody that you want as a caregiver, as under the CDPAP it is not mandatory for a caregiver to have any certificates and training which a requirement for home caregivers and providers is.
Under the CDPAP the consumer can choose anybody to be his or her caregiver whether it is a relative, friend or any other person that the consumer feels comfortable with or trust. Under the CDPAP rules the only group of people that should not be a caregiver to the consumer is only the legally responsible adults such as parents and spouses.
A consumer registered under the CDPAP have a choice to look and get a caregiver through the licensed caregiver agency, whose responsibility is to take care of the consumer needs and help wherever necessary.
In an event the consumer is unable to take the responsibility regarding their own care they can arrange to have a designated representative who has the ability to administer the care to the recipient. You should know that it is mandatory that the designated representative gets accepted by the social services.
